Economy
No doubt about it, the Var is an ideal department for starting up, where the economic and institutional operators get involved in giving guidance on projects. There are over 55 000 enterprises and new ventures average around almost 8 000 every year. The Var accounts for 20% of the region’s economic base and 21% of its new businesses. While the business start-up rate is above the national average in all the PACA region’s departments, the Var leads the way (12.5% in 2006). The employment areas of Brignoles (16.0%), Toulon, Fréjus - Saint-Raphaël and Draguignan (around 14% each) that have the highest start-up rates.
